Tweet your #passportquery

Gone are the days when you had to wait for days to receive a reply to your pass port queries. Now, all you have to do is tweet them and receive a reply within hours. Yes, t h e r e gion a l p as sport of fice, Ahmedabad, is now on twitter in an effort to serve the people in the best way possible.

Passport office's official Twitter handle @rpoahmedabad went live on March 11 and within four days, it received more than 14 queries.Meanwhile, people have welcomed the initiative.
Kartikeya Tanna, a lawyer who is also a visiting faculty at HL Institute, said, “On March 13, I had tweeted about Passport Seva Kendra in Ahmedabad asking for Indian Embassys legalisation of apostilled foreign document. Within 24 hours, I received a reply from @rpoahmedabad.“
Similarly, Gufran Ramporiya took to Twitter to seek information on why it was taking the passport office in Ahmedabad two months to review his passport. The passport office tweeted its reply within hours assuring him that they will inquire into the matter and get back to him. The passport office's official twitter page has 24 followers so far.
Regional Passport Officer ZA Khan said, “Considering the large number of people applying for passport at the Ahmedabad office and how tech savvy most of them are, we decided to get onto the social media which is the best way to connect with them.Currently, we don't have a dedicated team to look after the account but we will soon appoint someone who will go through all the tweets and reply to them. We are sure that this initiative will be well-received by the people.“
Khan further added that the department will take up common passport issues from the social media and address them.
“It takes time to investigate the cases. We track the cases and then respond to them on Twitter,“ said Khan.
Not only Twitter, the department is also designing a dedicated Facebook page where people can upload their queries and grievances. The page will be sent to central passport department for approval.
Moreover, the department will start its own page with the official central government passport portal where all details about `passport seva kendras' and contact number of officials will be provided.
“We will have a separate section on the portal where we will update essential information under FAQ so that people can just click on the link and get all the answers to the most common queries,“ said Khan.
